Memory and Signature quilts became very popular in the mid-1800s. This was around the time families were moving west as pioneers. These quilts were given to their families that they left behind as a memory or for a special occasion.
Memory quilts were also a great way of passing on information about one generation to the next. They could include materials from a certain occasion or include designs that showed the meaning of a special event.
Birthdays, weddings, births, deaths and anniversaries were all good reasons for making a memory quilt and allowing the memory of the occasion or loved one to last a little longer.
Whatever your reason for making a memory quilt your loved ones will cherish the quilt for a long time to come. The quilt in the picture was for a lady who was forgetting events in her life. The quilt was made to help her remember. The events chosen were carefully selected from a time of her life she rememberers well.
You could choose to mark the occasion of graduation and have all of the pictures from your child's school years, or you could create an anniversary quilt and choose pictures from the life the couple built together. There are many reasons to create a memory quilt. What event or occasion do you have in your life you want to remember?
Each quilt is unique to the person who will receive it. Pictures are printed on fabric and sewn together. The colors and fabric choices are up to the customer. When you place the order, I will be in contact with you to plan the design of your quilt.
I do not long arm quilt memory quilts because they will ruin the photographs. Instead these quilts are tied off.
